People that lose teeth usually want to replace them, especially where a gap can be seen when they smile. For years now, the obvious choice has been to have dentures but, while these are generally of a better quality than they used to be, they are not without their problems for some people. Dentures can have a tendency to move around in the mouth, sometimes making them uncomfortable and inconvenient. Little surprise then, that an increasing number of people are choosing dental implants instead.
By placing implants into the jawbone and allowing them to fuse together with the bone, this provides an artificial tooth root upon which a crown can be attached via an abutment. This ensures that they wonโt move around and are therefore considered to be the closest thing to a natural tooth currently available.
There is little doubt that implants are an excellent option and in todayโs blog, we are going to look at how different stages of life can benefit from having teeth implants placed at our Witham dental clinic.
Dental implants canโt be placed into people whose facial features are not yet fully developed. This could cause the implants to become crooked and probably even painful as the face changes shape. This varies a little but often by the age of 18 it is safe to place implants.
Dental implants can play an important role at this age. Peer pressure can be very intense during this period of our life and being the one who has dentures can potentially lead to ridicule which can affect confidence, and with it, potentially job and relationship prospects.
Many people in this age group are likely to be good candidates for implant placements as they are likely to still have healthy bone in their jaws to place the implant into.
By the time we reach our late thirties to fifties, it is quite possible that many of us will have some missing teeth. It is also a time when some of us might start to feel our youth gradually slipping further out of reach in many ways. Having unstable dentures that move in the mouth will only add to any anxieties about that.
Having dental implants then, can really help us feel that little bit younger and more confident in doing the things that we used to do. We are also probably going out for meals or to dinner parties more around this age and having teeth implants will mean you can eat what you want and avoid not being able to comfortably eat whatever the host has prepared. Not only can wearing dentures spoil your enjoyment of the food but may mean an embarrassing conversation with the hosts about why you didnโt eat the food they prepared!
By this time, we have probably started to move on from our youth and are accepting a new stage of our life. Social occasions such as dinner parties are likely to be our main source of socialising with others and, as just mentioned, being able to eat what you want without fear of your replacement teeth moving about, means that you are able to relax and enjoy eating whatever you want to. This is not only important for our enjoyment, but, as we grow older, for optimum nutrition too. This is very important to help keep us healthy, and restricting what we eat due to our teeth could even have repercussions for our overall well-being.
As we approach the later years of our life, there can be a tendency to think that all โold peopleโ want to do is to sit indoors with the TV looking back on their life. While some may do this, there are plenty of older people living life to the full, appropriate to their age. There are many rock stars, such as Mick Jagger, still touring the world and while not everyone would want to do that, many older people do travel the world on holidays etc. Especially while you are doing this, why not look the best that you possibly can?
Although older people may have less bone into which an implant can be placed, this is not always the case. Where it is, we can discuss options such as a bone graft to make this possible.
Losing teeth isnโt inevitable but it does eventually happen to many of us. When it does, there is no need to opt for the instability of dentures when we can have implants placed at Blake Dental at most stages of our lives.
