Smile Improvements For Nervous Patients

Not all dental treatments involve the need for drilling and injections. If you are an anxious patient in Witham but would like a nicer looking smile, we have treatments just for you.

Dental phobia and related anxieties are fairly common and we often see several patients a day with various degrees of this. Some patients exhibit mild anxiety, shuffling in the chair and with a β€˜what is going to happen’ expression on their face. Others exhibit far worse symptoms, and for these patients in particular, it is probably a real struggle to actually attend their appointment. If this reminds you of yourself, please don’t worry. We have a lot of experience treating nervous patients from the Witham area and are always happy to discuss this with you and help you to receive any treatments that you might need.

Generally, people who are anxious about dentistry appointments only come to those that are necessary, such as to have a tooth filled etc. Few will volunteer to have a treatment carried out if not really essential. Consequently, these patients can miss out on the opportunity to have a more attractive smile. While some cosmetic dental procedures, such as veneers, often require some invasive dentistry, there are several that don’t that we have available at Blake Dental and we are going to take a look at these now.

Teeth whitening

This procedure is almost certainly the most popular cosmetic treatment in the UK and for good reason. Not only is it very effective in whitening your teeth by several shades but it is entirely non-invasive as well. After choosing the shade of whiteness you would like, you will be supplied with custom made β€˜trays’ made to fit your own teeth for comfort, as well as the whitening gel and advice on how to use it at home. Within two or three weeks, your teeth will be noticeably whiter in a completely gentle manner.

Composite bonding

This is another procedure which often requires no invasive intervention. This is largely due to its excellent bonding properties. Composite tooth bonding is a resin based material that can be shaped and applied to the tooth. It can be produced to be made in a shade to match that of your own natural teeth. It is a very flexible option that can be used to repair chipped teeth, close small gaps between teeth and also used to whiten discoloured teeth, using the bonding in place of a veneer which usually would require invasive treatment to attach them to your teeth.

Orthodontics

Modern teeth straightening systems such as Invisalign are not only much less visible than traditional metal braces but also more comfortable too. Using a series of transparent trays that fit over the teeth and gradually move your crooked teeth into the correct position, they are also removable by the patients so that you can eat in comfort and clean your teeth efficiently. Again, usually no invasive dentistry is needed for this cosmetic procedure that will provide you with a straight and even smile.

Hygienist visits

Seeing the hygienist to have your teeth professionally cleaned with a scale and polish procedure every six months is not only a great idea as it helps to keep your teeth and gums healthy, but is also effective at removing some of the surface stains from your teeth as well. While not as effective as a teeth whitening procedure for this purpose, you will notice that your mouth will feel fresher and your teeth look cleaner and less discoloured once the treatment is completed.

Sedation options

While the above treatments offer some very good options for improving your smile, it is worth noting that we can also offer our Witham patients the option of IV sedation to receive any treatment if they wish. This would mean that, should you wish to do so, you could not only use the treatments above to improve your smile but also porcelain veneers, crowns and even dental implants if you wish. There is no pressure to take up this option but if you would like to find out more about it, please feel free to ask us. IV sedation will enable you to have any treatment in a very relaxed way without the anxiety that you might usually feel.

If you suffer from nervousness and perhaps even a sense of panic when a dentist’s visit is due, don’t be embarrassed. Dental anxiety is very common and we are here to help you receive any treatment that you require in a friendly and relaxed manner. If you would like to find out how we can help you, whether to receive general oral care or to improve your smile through cosmetic dentistry, why not call us for an initial consultation or even a friendly chat? You can contact us by calling Blake Dental on 01376 501688 and our team will be delighted to help.
